Today I will be reviewing a game, that is for the first time not about Harry Potter or Batman, is instead about the cursed planet Sera. Yes, today I will be reviewing Gears of War Ultimate Edition. I first received this game as a complimentary addition with my purchase of an Xbox One, I was hesitant to play it when I discovered it was just shooting, more shooting, and even more shooting, but I gave it a chance, since the game was critically acclaimed. Let me just say for the record, the critics were right. Gears of War is more than an incredible game with smart mechanics and challenging gameplay, it's one of the best or if the best shooters of all time. Let's start with the flaws since they are very limited. First, the story doesn't delve into the backstories of the four main characters or the four supporting characters. Some characters' history are briefly referenced to, but if you don't read the Gears' books or play the other games, you never really understand who these people are, which is a shame since you spend so much time with them. The story itself, goes very linear, and doesn't have any twists. However the story isn't the main draw here.

The main draw of Gears is it's incredible gameplay that bounces from you feeling amazing and a feared Gear and from making you feel like an ant against overwhelming odds. The gameplay is smooth and frantic. There are no rests to be had, you can't just sit in cover and expect your A.I. sidekicks to do all the work for you, chances are some enemy will come and shot gun you apart before you can even click the pause button. The multiplayer is a fine addition but some modes feel empty and hollow, whilst the more memorable modes go by way too fast. Overall Gears of War Ultimate Edition is am incredible shooter that provides some of the most profound moments of gaming, I didn't discuss the awesome moments to drop your jaw at, but these moments wash away the momentary annoyances that cloud the normal battles. Already it has three nominations for this year's HarryBatmanReviews Awards: Best Game, Best Shooter, Best Remaster.
