Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard: The Hammer of Thor is a riveting, compelling, action packed and of course amusing adventure that delves Magnus and company into a much larger scope tale.

Magnus Chase seems to be the one series that gets better and better; The Hammer of Thor is a sequel that is far superior than its predecessor due to originality and a sense of wonder. There are plenty of memorable moments, and they all make sense, but like previous Riordan tales, feel a bit forced. Another flaw that could be pointed out is the fact that the book feels mildly similar to the Sword of Summer and doesn't really create a huge sense of urgency to find the lost hammer of the iconic thunder Norse god, Thor. But in the end, it's still a riveting adventure that takes a spot in this year's HBB Reviews 2016 Best Book award nominee list. Score: 9.1
