Tomorrow, November 18, 2016, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them will open officially! Tomorrow two posts will go up. First the "it is out," and the official review. The original 2001 book, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is nothing to ramp your excitement for but adds a unique new layer in the Wizarding World that is both appreciated and respected.

The book is unquestionably a textbook. The first fourth is a history of Muggles and No-Maj's awareness of these beasts, hiding protocol for these beasts, and the classification of what is a beast. The rest of the book is an A-Z catalog of all the beasts in alphabetical order. Most of these beasts are new and have never been mentioned before in the original Harry Potter lore. But there's a great sense of reuniting when you find a beast that was in the original Harry Potter stories. However, the catalog feels a bit small and thin as well as the descriptions. I was looking for a more packed book than a thin eighty-eight page book that briefly discusses each beast. I would like to have seen a massive catalog and then following it some of the most interesting instances with the creatures of the Wizarding World. But it adds a whole new layer of depth to the world. It isn't mandatory for Harry Potter fans since it doesn't bring too much new things to the table, but is still an enjoyable experience to learn about the fantastic beasts of the Wizarding World. Score: 8.1 out of 10. Current Rotten Tomatoes Score for the film: 78% Certified Fresh
