Star Wars: A New Hope certainly is one of the most prominent and entertaining films in the franchise but its somewhat weak performances and rather stereo-type characters drag the experience from what could have been a heightened sci-fi experience.

The story of the film is good, but at times it feels off-putting or shoved. It feels as if George Lucas only wanted to create great moments but not a cohesive story. As a result, grand moments feel out of place and really drags the experience down. Everything feels like a huge coincidence and the things that aren't don't feel real enough. But overall, the story is satisfying if a bit un-choesive. The visuals are impressive for the time period it was released. Explosions look good and the lightsabers certainly are a key object. But I always found the battle between Darth Vader and Obi-Wan Kanobi to be extremely lacking. I wasn't expecting a full blown battle but a rather emotional one. Instead, what I discovered was the fight to be merely two men poking lit-up sticks and bantering at each other. But overall, it is still a satisfying and memorable experience that makes up for its lack of cohesive storytelling with big, grand moments. Score: 8.3 out of 10
