“He allowed them to do it to him?” He asked in a shell-shocked voice.

“Yes. And so much more.” Carl took the information in, remaining silent. “But he found dignity in silence. And that’s what you need to find. There is always strength in silence and lack of action. It doesn’t show cowardice or weakness. It shows strength. So whenever those kids come up to you, whenever they look to pick a fight or bring you down. You should always remain silent.”

From that day on, Carl had never let the bullies bring him down or harass him. He just remained silent and let the blows come at him, ineffective they became. On November 18th, school was going as normal as it could have. He sat at a table during lunch time, with his best and only friend at his school, Woodrick Elementary, James Smith. They were both relatively similar to each other. They both loved literature as whole and at that lunch they were both reading.Of course they were both reading different books. Carl was reading The Marvels by Brian Selznick while James was reading The Fellowship of the Ring by J.R.R. Tolkien. They sat at the table reading, slowly eating their lunch, not letting the pure chaos of noise affect the vivid worlds and stories they were experiencing. The bell then rang and everyone rushed out of the cafeteria, sure to throw away their trash first.
