The Castafiore Emerald isn't action-packed or suspenseful in any way the other Tintin stories were, but it makes up for it in humor and a tone of fun that is unparalleled in any Tintin story.

I'm sure you're contemplating how a Tintin story has little to no action since that's what the series is based on. The entire story is located at Marlinspike Hall and you grow to enjoy and remember every aspect of the classic landmark, even though there are new hallways and rooms in this volume. The characters are exceptional; you really see the more rough side of Captain Haddock and also how Castafiore does have a little more to offer for reading in between the lines. Unfortunately, there isn't any real characterization but the characters feel like themselves which is a good thing, considering about how much this story differs from the others. The story isn't entirely different, the tone is mostly the same but it has more fun than other stories. However, my real gripe, is that the ending is really unsatisfying and it could have been the best ending of the series, but ends up being the weakest. Score: 8.6 out of 10.
